Toloa Internship Program
The Toloa Internship Program is inspired by the Samoan proverb “E lele le toloa ae ma‘au i le vai” which reminds us that while the toloa may fly far, it always returns to the water. For our community, this proverb reflects the journey of our youth who may leave home to pursue education or opportunity, but who carry a deep desire to return and serve their people.
The Toloa Internship Program is designed to provide meaningful, hands-on experience for American Samoa Community College students and recent college graduates studying government, political science, public policy, or related fields. The program offers participants an opportunity to build their resumes, gain real-world political and organizing experience, and contribute directly to strengthening our Territory, all while working locally.
Interns will be exposed to the inner workings of political engagement, public policy, and community organizing, while developing professional skills that prepare them for future leadership roles. A stipend will be provided to help offset personal expenses, ensuring the program is accessible to students who are passionate about public service.
Through the Toloa Internship Program, we aim to invest in our next generation of leaders, nurture their connection to home, and create pathways for our young people to return, give back, and help shape a stronger future for American Samoa.
