Our Leadership

The American Samoa Democratic Party is guided by principled, experienced leaders at both the national and local levels who are committed to strengthening democracy, uplifting communities, and advancing opportunity for all.

At the national level, our Party proudly works alongside Democratic National Committee leaders, including Chair Ken Martin and Association of State Democratic Committees President Jane Kleeb, whose leadership helps ensure strong state and territorial parties across the country.

Fun fact: Democratic leaders have overwhelmingly shaped American Samoa’s political history. Our Territory’s Democratic leaders have included:

  • Fofo I. Sunia, the first Native Samoan elected to the United States Congress;
  • Faleomavaega Eni Fa‘au‘aa Hunkin, the longest-serving Congressman in American Samoa’s history;
  • former Governors A.P. Lutali, Tauese Sunia, and Togiola Tulafono.
  • and most recently, Governor Lemanu P. S. Mauga.

Notable Democratic leaders in the Fono also include Senator Galeai Moaaliitele Tu‘ufuli, whose service reflects the Party’s long-standing commitment to principled leadership and public service.
